FAQ
Do I need previous experience?
There are no prerequisites for the Introductory / Beginners Classes. We have designed these classes to suit people who have no experience in these styles, so if you've never set foot on a dance floor, these courses are for you! If you are interested in entering at a higher level, please give us a call or send an email, and we will assess your level individually.
Where should I start?
Our Introductory Classes are recommended for anyone who has not danced before, or who is unfamiliar with the basics of the dances. This course covers all three styles (ballroom, latin and salsa). If you are interested in entering at a higher level, please give us a call or send an email and we will assess your level individually.
What is the difference between latin and salsa?
Latin is comprised of 5 dances. You will learn the Cha Cha, Rumba, Samba and Jive in the Introductory Class (Paso Doble is taught in Level 4 and private lessons). They are all different, and can be danced to a variety of latin, club and modern music. Salsa is just one dance. It is a street Latin dance, and is danced in salsa clubs.
How do I register and do I need to prepay?
It's a good idea to register to make sure you can join the classes the day you want to. If you would like to secure a spot in the course click on “REGISTER NOW” to register. You can prepay by credit card over the phone, or alternatively with a cheque or money order. Give us a call or turn up early to the class to discuss the options with the teacher.
Do I need a partner?
No, you don't need a partner to attend our classes, many people attend without a partner. We ensure that everyone has the opportunity to dance with someone throughout the class. And it is a great way to meet new people!
Is there an age limit?
Absolutely not! All ages are welcome to join our classes, from Teens to Retirees. There is no age group that tends to dominate the classes; it is usually quite a varied group.
What if I can't make all the classes?
Not a problem! When you buy a 10 or 24 class pass, you can attend any classes at any time in any studio. There is an expiry date, but it's long enough that you'll not have any problems if you miss a class every now and then (4 months for a 10 class pass, 6 months for a 24 class pass). You can also sign up to a PAYG contract that gives you more value for your money.
What should I wear?
It can get quite warm in the studio during a lesson, so cool comfortable clothing is preferable. Generally it is smart casual.
What shoes should I wear?
Make sure your shoes aren't too slippery, as the floor is polished timber. NO STILETTO HEELS ALLOWED. Remember: If they are hard to walk in, they'll be even harder to dance in!
Ladies: Make sure your shoe has a closed-in heel.
Gents: Leather soles or non-grip rubber soles will work best.
The biggest rule is: MAKE SURE THEY ARE COMFORTABLE AND SECURE!
Can two people purchase one card?
No, a card is allocated to one person. If a couple is attending they will need to purchase one card each.
How do I get into competition?
Our teachers are highly qualified and are willing to help you through the levels and progress to competition level through private lessons. There is no age limit to this, and we are always happy to take on new students who would love the challenge, even beginners! Talk to your teacher or give our call centre a call.
What if I still have more questions or feel a bit uncertain?
Give our call centre a call or drop us an email, and we will make sure we answer any questions you have.
